A lot of private investigation work can now be done online. Your social media profile could be full of information. You likely have a detailed online presence that spreads far further than you ever could imagine.
Private investigators know exactly how to find, and use, a wide range of online information. They have access to such an extensive selection of sources and resources that they can even close some cases without moving from their chair in the office. But sometimes that isn’t enough.
Sometimes, the only way to get information is to get out in the field.
Professional private investigators are subtle, careful and cautious in all that they do. Yet, the ‘almost impossible’ isn’t completely impossible. So what should a private detective do if they were confronted by the person that they were following?
Ending the investigation
In most cases, continuing an investigation after being caught would not be the best course of action.
Someone that has caught a private investigator is likely to be more vigilant and more aware in future, which means that they’re more likely to notice another attempt. The fear of being followed might stop them from continuing the behaviour that they were originally being investigated for – which could be good news – but may simply drive an individual to be more secretive and more careful in the future.
Private investigators don’t want confrontation. They aren’t trying to make anyone angry, and they certainly don’t want a fight. The best course of action, in most cases, is to back off and to end the investigation.
Continuing confidentiality
Don’t worry. If your private investigator is caught, they should not reveal that you hired them. In fact, they will ideally not confirm that they’re investigating at all.
Your name will not be given to the person that’s being investigated. Be aware that this does not mean that they won’t have their suspicions.
How can you avoid the ‘almost impossible’?
Be careful who you hire.
Choosing an inexperienced private investigator could leave you at risk of being discovered. By selecting an investigator with experience, you stand the best chance of a successful investigation that can continue until it’s complete.
