Our instruction was to make a discreet visit and identify if they had the means to pay. Our discrete investigators attended an address in Prestwich from where the company was meant to be trading. We found an empty unit in an old mill, which according to a neighbour had been used to store frozen food, but was cleared out some months previous to the visit made by EJM Investigations Manchester based detectives.
An investigator from Manchester then attended the registered office address in Whitefield. This was a vacated office address. Our investigator made enquires and established that the address was previously an office for a care company that had no links to the Debtors. There was no evidence that anyone from the debtor company had ever been to the office in Whitefield.
This case highlighted the importance of doing due diligence when you first start a business relationship, diligence that could have highlighted early on that the debtor company was not what it was making itself out to be!
